2005-06-27 - 10:09 p.m.

Today I took off work because Mom had a left-lobe thyroidectomy at the local big hospital. The surgeon was running late, so she went in at 2:50 instead of 1:20. Melanie and I then had lunch at the Friendly's Cafe in the hospital (ugh) and she left thereafter to bring Zachary to his 15-month checkup dr's appt. I waited in the Family Surgical Waiting Room until 5, at which time the surgeon came to discuss the operation with me. He said everything went fine, that there were some complications with nerves but that he got everything he wanted to get, and now we wait for biopsy results.

2.25 hours later I got to go see her in her room. She looked so tired and frail lying there in bed...it really hit me that she's getting older (she's 65). She was groggy and was having a hard time talking, but I stayed with her for about 25 minutes, and then visiting hours were over and I left. I didn't get home till 8:20. Oy. Tomorrow her best friend picks her up and brings her home, and I guess we're winging it from there.
